🍺 The biggest Oktoberfest in southern Spain

Every autumn, on the seafront of Torrox Costa, the town swaps its usual Andalusian atmosphere for beer steins, Bavarian music and German food, for a few days. This isn't a tourist gimmick — it's a major event, compared by National Geographic Viajar magazine to the country's biggest Oktoberfests — Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia — and considered the largest in southern Spain.

The event brings together around forty stalls, several food trucks, a stage for concerts and DJ sets, and a large children's area — designed as a genuine family celebration, not just a boozy night out.

🏗️ Why an Oktoberfest in Torrox? The story of a German colony

This Oktoberfest exists because of a very concrete piece of history. In the 1970s-80s, construction company Bau-Hoffmann built more than 5,000 homes in Torrox Costa, specifically aimed at German buyers drawn by the climate and the attractive prices of the time. This wave of settlement gave birth to a genuine German colony, which endures to this day.

Torrox has thus become the municipality with the largest German community on the entire Iberian Peninsula. More than 6,000 Germans are estimated to own property in Torrox today, even though only part of them are officially registered as year-round residents. German-speaking shops, restaurants and associations are woven into local life — Torrox is sometimes nicknamed the Costa del Sol's "Little Germany".

🎉 The programme: from beer to family entertainment

The official opening follows the Bavarian tradition of "O'zapft is!" — the ceremonial tapping of the first keg, usually late on the first evening, accompanied by a band brought over specially from Germany.

Over the following days, the festival runs at full speed from noon to 1am: live concerts, DJ sets, local bands, kids' entertainment (around ten attractions), and of course a generous food offering blending German specialities (sausages, pretzels, sauerkraut), Spanish cuisine and international options, all washed down with several types of beer.

The event takes place on the seafront of Torrox Costa, in the area of the Iberostar hotel car park, the sports zone and the Ferrara promenade — an open-air setting just steps from the beach, easily reachable on foot from most accommodation in the resort.
